” From the Point of View of Yes”

The gallery becomes the artist’s studio from 18th October

Opening Thursday 9  November from 7 to 10 pm

until 16 December, 2023

Rebecca Camhi Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition with Alexandros Georgiou. The works presented are a continuation of the artist’s personal quest around existential questions, but here solitary creation becomes interactive through live contact with the visitors of the exhibition. Through this process they become collaborators. Strange creatures inhabit Georgiou’s world, sometimes anthropomorphic sometimes not, they roam around and interact, but mostly they are waiting, posing, looking at us, observing.

Georgiou is mostly recognised for his travel projects in Iran and India. The works he made while travelling were received through the post, by known and unknown recipients  – mainly handmade cards and painted black and white photocopies of photographs he took. Since the birth of his son in 2017, his travelling projects have given way to painting – a continuation of his friction with the medium in his early years.

The title of the exhibition, “From the Point of View of Yes“, talks about the state of affirmation, about the moment we “open up” to accept the unknown and the risks it carries.

Georgiou’s journey to distant parts of the world is now transformed by painting into a journey through the gallery, which opens up and becomes a whole. There, he will meet hidden and unknown characters who through an unpredictable course, he invites us to discover.

The exhibition at Rebecca Camhi gallery is held in parallel with his solo exhibition “Three continents, three friends. Drawings 1993-2023” at the Art Gallery of the Municipality of Athens (Leonidou & Myllerou, Metaxourgeio). Curated by Christoforos Marinos, the exhibition presents more than 500 works on paper, many of which are presented for the first time.

The exhibition at Rebecca Camhi gallery opens to the public from Wednesday 18th of October, where people can visit during the gallery’s opening hours and spend time with the artist working. The opening will take place on Thursday 9th of November at 7 – 10 pm.
