Safe Space

Opening: Wednesday February 22nd 2023, 7 pm

Duration: until Saturday April 1st, 2023

We are pleased to invite you to a group exhibition entitled “Safe Space”.

The exhibition draws inspiration from a new practice adopted by certain night clubs both abroad and in Greece. Smartphones must be left at the entrance and camera lenses are covered with stickers. This way the clubbers’ privacy is guaranteed and protected. They let loose, some do drugs, some meet their lover for the night, everything without fear or hesitation.

The artworks chosen for this exhibition are meant to soothe and promote a feeling of relief and tenderness, the feeling of being taken care of, either because of their aesthetics or because of the message/concept they convey to the viewer. They appeal to the viewer’s introverted, self-reflective side.

The exhibition “Safe Space” belongs to a series of immersive art exhibitions, which started with “l’appartement du collectionneur”, a collaboration between the gallery and the antique shop Martinos..  It invites viewers to participate in the experience rather than just look at the art.

The importance of privacy is emphasised along with an introspection to one’s inner self while redefining limits and boundaries. The artworks work as mirrors that reflect the viewer’s true self through exploration and acceptance, without the complexity of one’s internal conflict and societal judgement.
